Assigning instructors to students

How to assign an instructor to a student, what the assignment changes, and how to manage load and cover.

Last reviewed

Assign an instructor to a student to make that student part of the instructor's list. The assignment decides whose records the instructor sees by default, and helps you balance who is carrying whom.

Making an assignment

  1. Open the student's record, or the instructor's.
  2. Choose Assign instructor (or Assign student).
  3. Select the person and confirm.

A student can have a primary instructor and still fly with others, an assignment is about ownership of the student's progress, not an exclusive lock on who may teach them.

What the assignment changes

  • The instructor sees their assigned students without having to search for them.
  • Load is visible: you can see how many students each instructor carries, which makes it easier to spread work fairly.
  • It does not change who is *allowed* to teach what, that is governed by privileges, checked when a booking is made.

Cover and reassignment

When an instructor is away, reassign their students, or add a temporary assignment, so cover is explicit rather than assumed. Reassigning changes who sees the record going forward; it never rewrites the history of who signed past lessons.
