Your syllabus is not a PDF in FlyerOS, it is structured data. The syllabus editor is where you model the course you actually teach, so that a lesson is later graded against it directly.
Exercises, lessons and competencies
A syllabus is built from its parts:
- Exercises, the elements of the course, in the order and grouping you teach them.
- Lessons, the sessions that cover one or more exercises.
- Competencies, the specific things a student is assessed on within an exercise.
Modelling these means the system knows what a lesson is for and what a student is being marked against, rather than leaving it to a free-text note.
Grading scales
You set the grading scale the school uses, so an instructor grades on your terms, and a grade means the same thing across every instructor and every student.
It drives progression
Because the syllabus is structured, a graded lesson moves the student along it, and a head of training can see who is where against the real course. See Grading a lesson for how a lesson is closed out and recorded.
