Setting up a course

Create a course, lay out its exercises, then publish a version. Only a published version can take enrolments, because publishing is what freezes the syllabus a student will be assessed against.

Create the course

Give the course a name and the qualification it trains towards. At this stage it is an empty container: it holds the versions that carry the actual syllabus. See How courses, versions and enrolments fit together for why that separation matters.

Add the exercises

Lay out the exercises in the order you teach them, with the rule for completing each. This is the standard every student on the version will be measured against, so it is worth getting right before you publish.

Publish a version

Publishing turns your draft into a fixed, dated version. From then on it does not change under a student's feet: when you improve the syllabus later, you publish a new version, and students already training stay on the one they started.

1. Open the course.
2. Review the exercises and their completion rules.
3. Choose Publish version.

After publishing

• Enrol students onto the version. See Enrolling a student on a course.
• Keep editing in a new draft. The published version students are on is never altered; your changes go into the next version you publish.
